Using this textbook I taught Statistical Thermodynamics in CHEG 825 at the Chemical Engineering Department at the University of Delaware to 24 first-year graduate students in 2010. Having based my lectures and homework assignments on this book, I became very familiar with the content. Although I had a choice of several alternative texts to use instead, there is no alternative text that I would have rather used.

The text is written with succinct clarity and is understandable to an advanced undergraduate or early graduate student. The reader should have a prior undergraduate course in physical chemistry, specifically covering classical thermodynamics, as well as exposure to basic concepts in probability. For example at the beginning, the basic machinery of the subject is introduced using lucid explanations probabilistic states, microstates and fundamental postulates which ultimately lead to a natural explanation and derivation of the Boltzmann energy distribution. Throughout the book each important result is derived and each derivation is presented step-by-step. This helps the reader follow how logical and physical arguments are expressed mathematically to derive the important results. Any reader can appreciate the detail with which derivations are presented. This helps to validate his/her own understanding and helps each student as (s)he applies the methods to new problems.

I also very much appreciate that the content is both practical and interesting. This is not an expository text on all statistical thermodynamics per se. Instead there are a couple themes that are helpful to emphasize during a course. The first theme is that using these methods one can begin to calculate important engineering properties given molecular structure. The student already knows (s)he cannot do this using purely-macroscopic, classical thermodynamics. Consequently this text might be a student's first foray to understand quantitatively molecular structure-property relationships. The perspective buyer can read the table of contents to see how this is done step-by-step. The second theme is that the material can explain how many common engineering material property correlations came about, why they have limitations and how they can be improved. Now the thermodynamic correlations learned earlier in the classical thermodynamics course make sense. I found this helps elicit students' interest in the material. I found these two themes useful in my lectures.

I heartily recommend this book to those teaching+learning statistical thermodynamics as a prelude to the more esoteric methods in this field. The book provides a lucid communication of the basic concepts as well as useful methods and results which can be applied in numerous technical fields.

Sohel Akhter is a program management consultant, trainer, and an adjunct professor for City University of New York's MBA program. He is a top-level management professional with a distinguished management history of over fifteen years in information technology, networking, and software engineering within multiple industry settings.
Among Sohel's many other specialties are: PMO setup, WI MAX deployment, SAP implementation, strategic planning, business automation, and enterprise solution. My number 1 ranked PMP study material

In studying for my PMP exam, I have examined and trail-studied many-many books; Trying to ultimately find one main book to study from, which would provide the most fluid information, and prepare me the most for the exam.

Sohel Akhter's book was by far the most fitting and my number one selection. I used this book as my main study material.

I like the Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification Exam prep, best mainly because of a few key reasons

1. Format
Format is set up so it flows orderly and set up with many visuals, so to help one better remember the concepts and points. This booked promoted better memorization for me

2. Content :
Content is very complete with detail and outlines areas of key importance. This allows one to understand both the "How-to" details, and operations of project management, while highlighting areas which are especially prone to be tested / asked in the exam...

3. Practice exercises
Exercises are set up very logical, and allow fundamental progression to occur. The explanations are the best and most complete which I have come across, and the practice exam section is questions just like the exam

I strongly recommend this book. It has helped me out tremendously and I believe it is the best material out there for PMP exam prep.

FYI - I also have the Cheat-Sheet,(PMP Quick Reference Guide) by the same author "Sohel Akhter" .... it is fantastic and a must as well. It outlines the most critical parts to know for the PMP exam and it is a great to help memorization.

An absolute value-add for a prospective PMP

This book is truly ‘the asset’ to help anyone clear the PMP exam, by focusing only on its contents – ‘end to end’, for one month. It does deliver all that it promises, it easies the PMP journey.
This book was my primary source of study for the PMP exam (beyond some sample questions on the internet). Now that I have cleared the PMP in my first attempt, I would recommend this book highly, as being the only source that is thoroughly focused in ensuring that it equips you with the right mix of contents, delivered in a clear concise format to pass the exam in the first attempt. The exam is tough and unconditionally demands the kind of focus that this book delivers. The sample questions in this book give a clear perspective of how the exam questions would be structured – this probably is the only source you would need if you want to get things right the first time.
Besides setting the exam perspective, it has many real world examples that would serve as high-quality reference material for actual project management.
I had attended the training course that the author of this book handled, in Dec 2013 and used his study materials. I got this book which the author recommended to me in Mar 2014 for the practice questions. I studied this book end to end and ensured that I solved all the sample questions including the 200 sample exam questions included at the end of this book. It was all totally worth it!

The Indept PMP Exam Prep Manual

Prior to purchasing this book, I read through Andy Crowe's "The PMP Exam". Although Andy's book have a lot of good information regarding the PMP exam, Sohel Akhter's book offers more information and details not only about what is required to pass the PMP exam but also how to be a Professional Project Manager. This these reasons, I highly recommend Akhter's Project Management Professional Exam prep. In addition, the questions at the end of each chapter are challenging. Happy reading fellow managers.

After you understand how the test will go and what it incorporates this is an excellent book to tackle. I'm saying to burn through this book in a week or two for a good summary study guide. Every section it has gives you practice questions. For example, quantitative reasoning has like 14 sections. Each section focuses on something different. One may focus on decimals and fractions, and others can focus on geometry. great book

Some incorrect questions and answers

This is a review on behalf of my wife, who, despite my best efforts, now hates math more than she did before. She purchased it from Barnes & Noble, but I just had to review it, and I figured this would reach more people.

First of all, I love math, and, at least as far as GRE-level math goes, I'm quite good at it.

While the majority of the questions and answers were fine, some of the math problems were set up incorrectly; I could tell that they were aiming for a particular answer, which was given in the back; but I checked and double checked my work, and the question definitely does not work with for the answer they give.

There were also several questions that had just plain wrong answers, or the correct answer was in the wrong place in the list.

Some of the explanations are also confusing; they don't clearly convey concepts for problem-solving, but simply ask the student to keep trying different numbers until something works.

Finally, for some reason, they put the section with the easiest math (fractions and percentages) at the very end. This makes no sense; If you start easy, and gradually increase the difficulty level, rather than starting with the most difficult questions, students won't get as frustrated.

I know it's hard to set up all your questions and answers correctly, but it shouldn't cost too much to have a few nerds such as myself go through all of them before publishing a book like this.

A must-have for studying

Great book! Lot's of drills to practice on, it should keep a reader busy for a long time.

Pros:
-Plenty of drills of on average 12-14 questions each
-Drills categorized by question type e.g. Text Completion, Exponents and Square Roots so you can focus on your problem areas
-One of the only big question books out there

Cons:
-Errors in the book. Not a lot, but enough to slightly annoy you e.g. wrong answers
-Drills categorized by question type, but no mixed drills with all question types like the actual GRE
-Not enough Verbal drills, but plenty of Quantitative drills

Book necessary for a class, a must read for me, specialized in scope. Would not read for pleasure, certainly. Just as you'd expect a textbook--sometimes interesting, sometimes perfunctory. Book itself arrived with half the pages bent back and it is printed on cheap (newspaper-like) paper, but arrived in a timely manner, service was fine, good transaction otherwise.
