Dr Irnich holds a Certificate of Acupuncture, a Certificate of Chinese Massage and a Certificate of Qigong (China Beijing International Acupuncture Training Centre, WHO Collaborating Centre of Traditional Chinese Medicine), a Certificate of Acupuncture (A, B) of the German Medical Acupuncture Association (DÄGfA) and a Certificate of Natural Medicine (Naturopathy) of KneippÄrztebund and is a practicing acupuncturist.
Dr. Irnich is a member of faculty at different institutions: German Medical Acupuncture Association (DÄGfA), Acupuncture Course at Julius-Maximilians-University of Regensburg, KneippÄrztebund, Structural Acupuncture Course for Physicians at Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA.

Ella Fitzgerald, who died in 1996, came from a poverty-stricken background. She was abandoned by her father, possibly abused by her stepfather and lived on the streets as a teenager. As a club singer she had to contend with racism, sexism and advances from predatory men. But in the 1950s, just when Billie Holiday, from a similar background, was falling toward drug addiction and a sordid death, Fitzgerald escaped the seeming inevitability of that fate. Her songbook albums relaunched her career in a new direction, and she became a beloved figure in American jazz, known for her musical precision and luminous clarity. This biography offers an assessment of the emotional strength apparent in both her life and music.

For his exhaustive biography, Nicholson ( Jazz: The Modern Resurgence ) draws on written accounts of the legendary singer and on interviews with her childhood friends and musicians who have worked with her; he was unable to arrange to talk with Fitzgerald herself. The result is a thorough, dispassionate account of a career that began in 1935 when, at age 17, the singer first appeared in New York City's Apollo Theater and the Harlem Opera House. Nicholson shows how Fitzgerald was advanced by Milt Gabler at Decca and by promoter Norman Granz; he follows the grueling schedule to which she subjected herself and provides lucid analyses of her style and place in the history of jazz and 20th-century popular music. Although there are accounts here of her continuously unhappy love life, Fitzgerald's personality remains obscure, possibly a reflection of a performer to whom nothing other than singing seems to really matter. Ella Fitzgerald's hit song "A-Tisket, A-Tasket" grabbed national attention in 1938, and over the next three decades she won much popular and critical acclaim. Born in poverty, she rose to perform at Carnegie Hall, becoming wealthy and well liked. Nicholson discusses Fitzgerald's musical influences, places her in the context of swing and bebop, and discusses her career highlights, including the Songbook albums. But he also bemoans the many silly songs she recorded to achieve wide sales and discusses her lack of depth compared with Billie Holiday. A 61-page discography by jazz historian Phil Schaap is said to include previously unknown recordings. Although this biography joins at least four others (some in German), it seems well researched and is recommended for general collections.

Enjoyable, enlightening, thoroughly researched.

I'd have given this book 4 1/2 stars given the option. The only reason I didn't give it 5 is that it gets somewhat dry towards the end, but I blame my attention span for some of that. It's full of fascinating stories, tidbits and opinions from musicians, producers, friends and agents who worked with Ella. You'll come away from the book with a new understanding of Ella the person and Ella the musician. You'll learn much about the times and the musicians who created the story of popular music and jazz in America. You'll also have a fascinating guide to her recorded music, the whys and the hows of it, the circumstances that made it wonderful or less than great. I recommend this book!

Every step in recording studio and no other informations

I read this book in for the first time in 1996. and now, second time around, still have the same feeling - Stuart Nicholson had obviously find easier to trace every step Ella Fitzgerald ever made in recording studio,than what she thought,felt and reasons behind her behaviour."A model in research and musical insight?" There is a year-by-year recording dates discography but not one single interview or even quotte!!Yes,Ella was a wonderful,gifted singer,but what eventually came out of this book (between the lines,if you bother to read) is that she was easily and ruthlessly pushed around by Norman Granz (manager) and made him a millionaire,toured 365 days in the year so Granz could collect Picasso paintings & move to Switzerland and that same Granz didnt have understanding for her,making a scene when she couldnt perform as her sister had just died (Duke Ellington stepped to protect her and got a slap on HIS nose instead).If Stuart Nicholson didnt have acces to do interview with Fitzgerald herself or at least some of her close friends,I wonder why did he bother to writte a book at all (just to dig some dirt & discover that she was - maybe?- a victim a child abuse,something that she kept behind her and didnt want to discuss,which we should understand and respect).No matter how appealing singer Ella was,I find repulsive idea of this big woman being lead around by her manager as beast of burden.And they said Billie Holiday was a tragic figure - hey, Billie at least had a good time! At the end of 245 pages,I find this book simply overrated - you can easily find Fitzgerald's discography in every jazz dictionary and perhaps as a subject of his book Nicholson should have consider Norman Granz instead.

Cultivating my Yang, this one's a must read!

The Bingo Theory was an excellent read. I was very recently introduced to the theory of masculine and feminine energies and the way that they relate to the yin and yang of the Chinese tradition by my psychologist. This book was a simple introduction into a bigger concept and helped me to understand the concept and apply it to my life. According to "The Bingo Theory", we all have both masculine and feminine energies, but usually one is stronger and it overpowers the other energy, and that's how we become imbalanced. This book helps you to first discover which energy is stronger in you (are you a "masculine strength female" or a "feminine strength female”?), and how to find a happy balance where you are competitive and courageous but also kind, goal driven and focused with a purpose. This book was also a great follow up to the book “An Urban Monk” by Pedram Shojai that I had just finished. It was an absolute must read for me and I will use its guidance to transform my life and my relationships.

I have to admit , at first I had a wrong impression about Mimi's life- I thought that everything was so perfect and that the success came easily for her- but I was wrong. As I watched more videos, I've learnt that Mimi is such an inspiring and passionate human being- you can even notice the sparkle in her eyes when she talks about something she loves or is passionate about. Especially her videos about how to be happy or how to deal with negativity helped me in a phase in my life, where I felt lost and buried myself in self-misery. As I am now in a long relationship , I still have not figured out how to have a good relationship with myself. That is also why I ordered the bingo theory- to learn more about myself and my inner feminine and masculine energies. I think that many people struggle to connect with their inner energy- as they are taught by society, school or even upbrining and parents on how to behave depending on your biological gender and what to think. For many years I felt that I was a feminine strength female- as I always found it hard to stand up for myself and always let go when I was in an argument. But I learned through this book that I am actually a masculine strength female as I have a very ambitious and independent mindset, but sometimes I find it hard to stop and just relax. I think the bingo theory gives you the best insight on how to balance those two energies and also to find out which one is dominant. Now that I've found out which is my actual strength energy, I will put my effort to become a bingo. I know it will be a long way until then, but the best motivation is that I have then inner peace with myself and accept myself and start loving myself for who I am- I know it sounds egoistic- but first you have to love yourself in order to love others.Mimi I want to thank you for this inspiring and helpful book you created, for sharing your ideas and beliefs not only through videos but also in a physical form. I hope that you will continue your writing-career in the future and wish you all the best !
P.S. I really recommend this book for everyone- it is a real eye-opener and will help you to develop a balance with yourself and at a daily basis with others.

Being balanced and Mimi's aurea mediocritas

The topic of the book is timeless, because it talks about being balanced. The Mimi's concept is mostly related to the relationahips - with others or ourselves, so that is why this is the main subject of the book. I am grateful she decided to share this theory with the world, since it can help so many people to improve their relationships with others and themselves. I've been reading a lot of self-improvement books, because it's one of my favourite kind and Mimi's work is definitely one of those books which has joined to my books of value, meaning to those making me realise something which has the major impact on my life. "The Bingo Theory" made me realise how important is to be aware of the strength energy we have in order to be balanced and thus make better decisions in our lives concerning mainly relationships, but also our career, health, well-being and so on.
I appreciate this book, because apart from the theoretical aspect of the concept, Mimi shares her aurea mediocritas to put the theory, what I would call "the awareness", into practice - even if some of her advices seem down-to-earth, like changing a light-bulb or assemble a piece of furniture on our own in order to feel more confident and in control of our life, they are very telling examples. Sometimes smaller illustrations make us realise something big. That is what I appreciate the most in this kind of books. I would recommend this book to everyone aiming to be balanced in various aspects in life in today's world and I am sure that he will find something which will work for him personally. "The books that help you most are those which make you think the most. The hardest way of learning is that of easy reading; but a great book that comes from a great thinker is a ship of thought, deep freighted with truth and beauty". I think these words of Pablo Neruda perfectly fit Mimi and her book.

Grade 5 Up-- Myers organizes Malcolm X's life into four stages: his childhood; his adolescence; his period of working under Elijah Mohammad; and his life after breaking with the Nation of Islam. Throughout, his experiences and actions are presented in a broader social context, from the beliefs of Marcus Garvey, who exerted such an influence upon Malcolm's parents, to the culture of adolescent black males in the 1930s and 1940s, to the contrasts between the Nation of Islam's views and those of Martin Luther King, Jr, with all the shadings in between. The author discusses the evolution in Malcolm's character, as his belief in Islam gradually taught him that not all whites were the enemies of African-Americans. He strikes a good balance between his subject's personal life and broader social issues and movements. Myers does not judge whether or not Malcolm X's views were better than those of King, but rather shows how both appealed to specific audiences and contributed to the struggles of the 1960s. Surprisingly, though, there is very little discussion of current controversies that have emerged from the two points of view. Black-and-white photographs and a reproduction of a page from Malcolm's extensive FBI file help readers to visualize the key personages and events in America's past. From a 14 year old perspective

"I have a dream..." were the famous first words of the great Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s speech at the Washington Street March. Many people have studied these words as the words of the most prominent black civil rights leader, but few have studied the words of the great Malcolm X. Malcolm X was a lesser known civil rights activist and leader. He was very controversial in his time, but few will argue that he is one of the smartest, most passionate men in history. This book takes you through Malcolm's childhood in Nebraska, his teenage years as a drug dealer on the streets of Harlem, and finally his adulthood, fighting for his rights as a great Islamic, black leader.

Walter Dean Myers does an excellent job of putting aside his feelings of Malcolm X and letting form your own opinion of him. Myers comes up with facts and not more so you can do this. He paints a clear portrait of Malcolm's entire life and work for young adult to adult readers. I personally enjoy the way that Myers is very straight forward in his writing but somehow adds a touch of suspense into the facts. "Malcolm was taking a dangerous course, and he knew it...if someone wanted to harm him, it could still happen. The word on the streets of Harlem was somber. Malcolm, it was said, was marked for death." p. 165. This is just one example of the suspenseful tone Myers uses to keep you turning pages. Myers writes about Malcolm as though he had known him personally and knows what times were like for him. At many points throughout the story, you feel as though you are there with Malcolm in Mecca or watching through the window as the assassination takes place. Myers keeps you into the story and wanting more and even wishing you had been able to meet the great Malcolm X first hand.

After reading this book, I think that Malcolm X's biography should be more commonly used name in places of learning. Malcolm X should be studied along with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. so that people don't only see one side of the civil rights movement. Though Malcolm is often misjudged or interpreted, he should be remembered as a great fighter who believed in equality and justice for all.

Malcolm X was one of the most devoted men who ever walked on earth. From street wise thug to a civil rights leader he had changed hatred into love. The book Malcolm X `by any means neccesary" written by Walter Dean Myers pushes you to your main objective in life. Malcolm X as known by many was a role model for all mankind.
Growing up wasn't a teenagers typical day for Malcolm.Day to day as he went outside to the world he would see hatred in the eyes of his brothers. As a child Malcolm experienced the life of violence, racism, and segregation. Everything that surrounded him was hate and struggle and that's way he became a street wise hustler.
As time traveled so would he. Getting wiser was part of growing up.Malcolm at age fourteen realize that he wanted to be someone successful in life. During his life Malcolm also realized that knowledge created hate and truth created violence. The author attempts and successfully shows how one person can change and impact a world just in a matter of time.
by the time of his tragic murder in 1965, Malcolm was world famous as the "angriest black man in America," why, because he strived to end racism and segregation amongst the human race. Malcolm unlike many other men brought new hope and self-respect.
Unlike other Authors, Walter dean Myers introduces a strong character who's life will impact you all throughout your life. This book opened up my mind to many questions, taught me not to always swallow what is dished( in terms of KNOWLEDGE). This is one book that you won't put down once you've started, this book also attempts to answer any questions about the struggle of life just by looking at the life and work of Malcolm X.

Walter Dean Myers Succeeds Again!

Evaluation: This is a wonderfully written biography of an influential African American, Malcolm X. Beginning with his birth in 1925 and ending with his assassination in 1965, Walter Dean Myers describes the trials and tribulations of one of America's radical African American leaders. The book details the many differences between Malcolm X and Martin Luther King. Though both men aimed to lift the African American people from their second class citizenship, Martin Luther King believed in a nonviolent approach. On the other hand, Malcolm X believed that the African American community needed to revolt. "Revolution is bloody, revolution is hostile, revolution knows no compromise, revolution overturns and destroys everything that gets in its way" (p. 107). These were Malcolm X's words as he described his belief that no African American solution could possibly involve fitting into a white society. Students will enjoy reading this biography. They will come to learn about a controversial figure in America. Several photographs and illustrations will help to entice even the most reluctant of readers.

Dominic Tierney is an associate professor of political science at Swarthmore College and holds a Ph.D. in International Relations from Oxford University. An original and thought-provoking read

I read an advanced copy over the weekend (which is exactly the same as the final version). First, the book is completely original. I don’t know of any other books about what to do if a war turns into a quagmire. It reads like a survival guide. But instead of a zombie invasion, it’s a U.S. military disaster. America is such a victory culture that we haven’t noticed that we stopped winning wars a long time ago. Nearly all major conflicts since 1945 (Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan, and Iraq) were either stalemates or defeats. One of the many ironies highlighted by Tierney is that the U.S. started losing wars after 1945, just as the country became a superpower. The book is full of compelling stories of loose nukes in Algeria, the War of 1812 being a near-disaster (not what we were taught in high school), and the U.S. bizarrely negotiating for weeks over the shape of the negotiating table in Vietnam. If the war on ISIS goes south, the president might need to get a copy.

This is not a book about the methods of counter-insurgency warfare (such as the Accidental Guerrilla or Eating Soup with a Knife). Rather, it looks at the how to create the right policies for wars that may not have the same priority on national resources as we were willing to commit to the Second World War.

In this book the author ruthlessly examines the changes in U.S. wars since the end of the Second World War. His points are no less profound for being straightforward from the evidence. He correctly looks at the importance of what happens after a battlefield victory - something that was integral to the planning in most of our victories in what he refers to as the "Golden Age." The U.S. government began detailed planning for the post-war stabilization of Japan in early 1942. Post-war stabilization was an important part of General Winfield Scott's campaign in central Mexico in the Mexican-American War. In comparison, the U.S. began detailed planning for the post-war stabilization of Afghanistan only after we gained control of the country. The timeline was tighter in Iraq, but detailed post-war stabilization planning only really began in mid-2003, months after we had toppled the Saddam Hussein regime.

Dr. Tierney's solutions are flexible rather prescriptive - which makes sense, since "unwinnable" conflict have some general similarities, but their details vary a great deal.

Tierney rightly points out that any future military campaign that requires the long-term presence of U.S. ground troops in a foreign theater is likely to become an unwinnable war. Tierney's unique contribution is that he offers a prudent way to get out of these quagmires: the strategy of Surge, Talk, and Leave. Candidates seeking the Oval Office in 2016 should read this book!

About the Author
Norman Gaither is Professor Emeritus of Business Analysis and Research at Texas A&M University. He received his Ph.D. and MBA from the University of Oklahoma and his B.S.I.E. from Oklahoma State University. Prior to teaching, Professor Gaither worked at Olin Corporation, where he held the positions of chief industrial engineer, plant manager, and director of a multiplant operation, and at B.F. Goodrich Company as senior industrial engineer. Professor Gaither's writings on a wide range of operations management topics have appeared in Management Science, Decision Sciences, Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Simulation, Journal of Purchasing and Materials Management, IIE Transactions, Journal of Cost Analysis, and International Journal of Operations and Production Management. Dr. Gaither has served on the editorial boards of several highly respected journals in the operations management field. He is also an AACSB Federal Faculty Fellow.

Useful for undergraduate students

The book shows the different topics about operations management with several excercises and mini-cases. The mini-cases are not so complex. These mini cases are designed for tools applications but don't help to build a business system concept or a bussiness problem, something very important for MBA students. That is the reason because this book is appropiate for undergraduate students in Bussiness or as a complement material for graduate students.
Also, the book needs to improve the explanation of process choice or process tipology, both for goods and services. It is something confuse.
I have the spanish edition book with a software (POM) in a CD included. This software has some applications as forecasting, linear programming, proyect management, mrp, among others,in a simple format. But POMS for Windows (H.Weiss), DS for Windows(H.Weiss) and HOM software have more modules and let you try more complex situations.

I have the 7th edition. I would like to make you see that the book should be more explicit about where to find the complements like teacher's manual, softwares, videos, etc. that is mentioned in the preface to be available.
