So...this book has a lot of tropes I like. The top two being "sports" and "friends to lovers".

Jason Hawk and Derek Griffin, meet at footballpractice. Jason is the QB and Derek is a receiver. Derek is gay, but nobody knows about this, and there is a reason for that. He went through something awefull, when he was still in highschool, and ever since, he's not so eager to come out to his footballteam again. This traumatic event however, has also caused some hang-ups regarding his play.

Jason is a well known QB on his team and during practice, he gets to witness Dereks struggle. He also has this feeling that Derek could be really great, so he offers to help him get over his hang-ups. They start training and practicing together and become very good friends. Derek decides to be honest and explains to Jason (partially) what happend to him in high school and also lets him know he's gay.

The two of them become closer every day, and eventually feelings chance, as they always do ;) Derek has always been attracted to Jason...even before they became friends, but Jason, he's confused about his feelings, he's only ever been with women.

What I liked most about this book, is that Jason was very honest about what he was feeling. Not only to Derek, but also to himself. Ofcourse there was some hessitation on his part, but it was very short, and to be honest...I wouldn't have believed him if wasn't confused.

Once Jason figures things out for himself, he's all in....and I liked it, very much. These boys were hot together, but in a very sweet way. Things aren't always easy though, because eventhough Jason is coming to terms about his feelings for a man, Derek is freaking out a bit, because of his past.

Now the angst in this one wasn't very high. I'ts a pretty fluffy read...at least that's what I think. Both characters were very like-able and sweet, but it wasn't overly sweet or sugary.

A very nice, gfy, friends to lovers, sports book, 4,5 stars from me.

I do hope there will be more in this series, since I would love to read a book about Mills ;)
He was a great secondary character.

omfg HOT!!!! I need more from this author, stat!

Hawk and Griffffffffffff!!! OMG I just found a new one-click-buy author. READ THIS BOOK. I couldn't put it down. I loved the chemistry between these two, and the totally sweet, natural way their romance develops, plus ... omfg HOT. I want to go back and read it again right away, just because... !! So many things. I think Hawk is for sure one of my all-time favorite STG characters, and Griff is just ... yummy. I love these two. LOVE THEM!

This is a great book, and the first book by this author that I have read.

I really liked the fact that the author kind of switched the roles of who was okay to let everyone know the MCs are together. That is something that I hadn't really seen yet all of the books that I have read the one that knows he is gay is usually the one pushing for them to be out and open, but this is very refreshing.

Granted I understood the reluctance of Derek, with having gotten hurt in HS because of being gay, with his teammates finding out that he is gay. I really liked the dynamic between Jason and Derek and that Derek was patient with Jason and didn't just try to push everything at once.

Even with the MCs being in college there really isn't a lot of sex scenes in the book which I also really liked. There is a real storyline and not just the two MCs getting together and sex all the time. Especially since their teammates don't know till after the halfway point that they are even together. For me I like books that aren't all about the sex and more about the characters.

I could not put this book down. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking to get into reading M/M or anyone that likes a good storyline with a little bit of sex thrown in.

A great book for beginners

A great book for beginners. Different from other books, this book do not suppose the reader have any knowledge about programming language. The way this book introduce knowledge is always "instantiated" with analogues which make my understanding much easier. The conventions are also mentioned, such as use of "$" is not used although it is legit. There are plenty of code examples and questions and exercises.
This is the book I'm looking for. Thanks, authors.

Not exactly a short course but it covers everything in JAVA 8 so if one is using a book on basics to learn and something isn't clear or not covered it is helpful to have "The Java Tutorial" on hand to get the info in detail.

very important book

Slim though it is, this is a powerful little book. This insightful study of the biological consequences of the great culture clash that began in 1492 changed the way I think about history and has proved to be a valuable reference. It is a must-read for anyone interested in anthropology, epidemiology, ecology or history.

Although only a large essay, Columbian Exchange was a paradigm shift in how Western historians view biological exchanges between Old & New World after 1492. Besides the exchange in human (mostly African) slaves which was the intended 1st leg of a nefarious Triangular Trade cycle between Old & New Worlds, Crosby also examines the unintended consequences of food crops, pathogens, domesticated animals, and commodity crops (rubber, cotton, etc.)

It concerns not only the cash crops (tobacco, sugar,coffee, rubber, cotton).

It also suggests the effect of pigs & horses which readily adapted to the New World. Horses transformed many Amerindian cultures into horse-centered cultures.

Many Old World plants & animals transformed the Americas(and Africa). Unintended 'hitchhikers' like smallpox & flu had the effect of a genocidal pandemic upon native Amerindian tribes.

New World species, especially potato, once they gained acceptance in Europe, became a staple of the poor, (Ireland & Russia).

Not emphasized by Crosby, many exotic New World specimens were returned to the Old World by natural scientists and the idea of natural selection was devised based upon evidence & specimens gathered in New World by European naturalists (i.e., Darwin's studies of finches of Galapagos)

These are a few of the effects of the Columbian Exchange. Crosby's work changed the way that historians and scientists understand the Age of Discovery.
I read this book 'after the fact', having become familiar with the exchanges by secondary, later sources. I am surprised that more scholarship hasn't pursued the effect of Dutch exchanges in Indonesia, British exchanges in India, etc which I would expect to have been as transformative as the Old World / Americas exchanges.

Spectacularly written and a perspective changer. I had to read this book in graduate in a seminar entitled "Environmental History of Latin America." It obliterated many of the previous notions I had concerning the method in which the Spanish conquered the Americas. Crosby brute-fully and ingeniously asserts that the conquerors from the old world, accompanied by their weapons, animals, ideals, and most importantly (with their most devastating cohort) disease, that their landing on the shores of the New World were akin to an asteroid slamming into it and catastrophically modifying it for the rest of human history. Whoa.

Arthur Miller's Tragic Denial

This was going to be a 5-star review. But I have learned this week while reading "Timebends" for the first time -- twenty years after its first publication -- that Arthur Miller and his third wife, Inge Morath, had a son, Daniel, who was born with Down syndrome in 1966. Daniel's name does not appear in the text or index of "Timebends." According to an article in the September 2007 issue of Vanity Fair, Miller had Daniel banished to a state institution almost immediately after birth, and that he thereafter completely excised Daniel from his life. It's heartbreaking. According to Vanity Fair, Daniel, who is now 41, is relatively high-functioning and a very happy, content and spirited person. But when Daniel's mother, Inge, (who was well-known in her own right as a photographer) died in 2002 and the New York Times called Miller for information about his family, he again omitted the name of his youngest son. Inge visited Daniel regularly until her death, and celebrated holidays with him. I wonder how much friction her refusal to simply throw him away caused in the Miller household? Not enough to divide the couple, it seems. They were married 40 years.

In my view, to have denied his son's existence is an unforgivable blind spot for an artist so widely revered and admired for his empathy and his brave stances as a moral force for justice and compassion. As the VF article points out, shame, selfishness and fear could all have been motivators for Arthur Miller's decision. Still, after reading more than 500 pages of musings and meditations by a truly masterful writer -- a man all too aware of his own humanity; both of his talents and his limitations, I feel betrayed.

Much of "Timebends" just drips with elegant prose; Miller spins elegiac meditations on life during the Depression, his first exposure to unfair labor practices on New York city docks and the difficulties he always had writing (the gestation period for his plays was sometimes years). He humbly describes his refusal to "name names" during the 1950s Red Scare, and tells of the pain he felt at having to sever his friendship with director Elia Kazan for many years for having given the House Un-American Activities Committee everything it wanted.

If his first marriage and children never seem to elbow their way to the forefront of Miller's monologue, it's because he devotes so much time to describing the American theater in one of its Golden Ages -- the late 1940s and early 1950s. Miller seems to have known everyone -- not only in the theater but in all realms of arts and letters and politics, but he never sounds like he's name-dropping. And he wisely uses restraint in describing his works in full and in quoting shamelessly from their reviews. Miller also bites his tongue while discussing the failed and rancorous attempts to bring about a National Theater in the 1960s.

And then we come to the chapters everyone was dying to read when the book first came out -- the chapters on Marilyn Monroe. Miller had never spoken publicly about her before "Timebends" was first published in 1987. I don't doubt for an instant that he truly loved Marilyn, nor she him. Hers was obviously an extraordinarily appealing personality, and her beauty allowed him to forgive her neediness and desperation for respect and love for many years. Miller says she was never happier than when they went to visit his parents in New York. There Marilyn was treated like an ordinary daughter-in-law, and she loved it. Miller notes her native intelligence -- which was tremendous -- and her desperate sadness and endless quest for normalcy. He met her in 1951, before she became bigger than life, and he followed her trajectory almost all the way to the bottom. They were married for five years, from 1956-1961. In 1960, making the film "The Misfits," which Miller wrote expressly for Monroe, nearly killed them both. This is a fascinating portrait of Marilyn which was shrouded until Miller decided to unveil it. It's the eulogy he never got to deliver. It's beautiful, tender, and rueful, speaking as it does of untold grief on both their parts. It seems as though Miller regretted to the end of his days his inability to save Marilyn, although there were many others who found they were not up to the task, either.

Tragically, after the heroic efforts to save Marilyn from herself, Miller's well ran dry, and there seems to have been no more compassion or sensitivity to show to his own son. Miller married Inge Morath in 1962, a few months before Marilyn died. Morath was a photographer from Magnum Photos sent out to capture pictures on the set of "The Misfits." Miller and Morath remained married until her death in 2002, fifteen years after "Timebends" ends. And frankly, I got no further than their marriage and birth of daughter Rebecca once I learned of the missing son of Arthur Miller. As Miller did to Daniel, so I, too, turned away from the rest of what had been the story of a deeply compelling and moving life.

Tedious and Disappointing

For such a well regarded playwright, I found the writing tedious. Miller's comments on the times added nothing that one familiar with the post-WWI period would not already know.

I had hoped to learn more about the author's character and inner thoughts, but was disappointed. At times, what came across as irrelevant commentary or details seemed intended almost to obscure rather than reveal.

By 50 pages, I was exasperated and starting to skim, shaking my head in wonderment at those with the patience to wade through all 600 pages of this.

About the only interesting parts were Miller's comments on his plays and some of their underlying themes or motivations.

Awesome finish to a great start...for a teen reading book.

I really enjoyed the ending to this story; however, I wished it had gone a little more into the future..epilogue - one year later...then tell us. Unless you have read the first book, stop reading and go back and read it. There are way too many answers given to questions asked in the first book. A little more research on electric fences needed to be done, and I get it, it's fiction, but keep some semblance of real world. I really liked how the author closed the loop on everything in the story from the passage of right to the bad guys losing the war.

I hoped for more
By What's Beyond Forks?
This book takes off right where the last one ended. There is a lot of character change in this book. I can't just say character growth, although there was quite a bit of that too, but the characters themselves changed in many ways. I felt like there was a lot of the same in this book that we already had in the last book. It was still entertaining, but I was hoping for more.

The first book in the series was more interesting for me, with much less romance and more insightful thinking. I cared about the characters in the first book, they seemed more real than in this one. Still, great premise

About the Author
Dr. Ed Blesy graduated from the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine in 1997. In 2006 he opened his own clinic, St. Joseph Animal Wellness Clinic, in Southwest Michigan. He has appeared on-air with Wild Bill on 97.5FM radio to answer listeners’ vet questions and written pet-related articles for Lakeside Family Magazine. He and his wife Marcy enjoy spending time on the beautiful beaches of Lake Michigan and attending the activities of their two sons. Dr. Blesy can be reached via his website or facebook page at www.sjvet.com. Marcy Blesy is the author of several middle grade and young adult novels. Her picture book, Am I Like My Daddy?, helps children who experienced the loss of a parent when they were much younger. She has also been published in two Chicken Soup for the Soul books as well as various newspapers and magazines. A page turner for all ages!

"Be the Vet" is a uniquely written book that catches your attention from the first page. I love the reader "involvement" aspect of these seven stories. It's wonderful to find a book (and ebook) on the market that has the potential to replace a game controller in the hands of youngsters...yes it's that good!!!

I'm a Librarian and as such I don't "own" alot of books. I own this one!!
9 - 12 year olds will love the interactive problem solving format about one of their favorite topics - pets!
First in a series that will have your patrons, kids, and grandkids queing up for more.

An Entertaining Teaching Tool for Pet Lovers

Seasoned veterinarian Dr. Ed Blesy and his wife Marcy collaborate in “Be the Vet'” The book is a unique concept made up of heart- touching stories, creative diagnostic assignments for readers ages 9 – 13, with informative recommended treatment plans.

Each of the seven stories features an incident where a family pet has an unexpected medical emergency and the need for a veterinarian. Marcy is a gifted story teller. Her writing is sensitive and age appropriate, stimulating creative curiosity and empathic compassion from her readers.

I became very interested in Jingle the cat’s story. Although Jingle was eating the same amount of food she was losing weight. The family noted she was drinking a lot more water than usual. They made a call to the Vet. Lab tests revealed that Jingle had high levels of glucose and was diagnosed with Diabetes. Her treatment called for insulin shots similar to many people who have Diabetes. It is hard to think of a small kitten or other small animal being susceptible to things like Diabetes, kidney, or gland problems.

The “if you were a veterinarian” exercise provides an opportunity for the child to think through on the extent of the injury or sickness revealed in each scenario. Dr. Blesy carefully lays out the steps involved in determining the pets (patient’s). history, assessment procedure, and treatment plan.

This assessment plan is presented in a professional style (not dumbed down for kids).However, unfamiliar words are explained so that the process is understandable. Parents may need to assist younger readers in some instances. “Be the Vet” takes the mystery, fear, and panic out of calling for medical help for family pets when needed and introduces the veterinarian as a friend of the family.

“Be the Vet – 7 Dog and Cat Stories – Test Your Veterinary Knowledge” is an entertaining teaching tool for pet lovers. Highly recommended.
