Doesn't get any better than this.

It is so good because Caples was in the mail order advertising business for forty-something years, and that's one of the few kinds of advertising that gets real feedback. Ads can be tested and the results can be compared. So Caples gives you FACTS rather than opinions about what works in advertising.
The book is very informative and also very interesting because Caples will show you two examples of ads he ran as a split-run and says "one sold three times more than the other; can you guess which one?" Then he'll tell you, and tell you WHY.
Not only that, but the book is extremely readable. I'm the author of Self-Help Stuff That Works, and I'm an expert on putting the most useful information into a readable form, and this book is as good as it gets. As David Ogilvy says in the introduction, "This is, without a doubt, the most USEFUL book about advertising that I have ever read." No more endorsement than that is needed!

Excellent - Best book on advertising and copywriting ever!

I have read this book twice cover to cover and refer to it almost everyday. If I could have given this book 6 stars I would have done it without reservation.
I have ordered and read at least 4 different books on copywriting and advertising in the last year. Most of the books have good ideas, but none of them describe the methods of writing headlines the way Caples does. He spends 4 chapters on it and let me tell you when he is finished you will know it cold! Personally that would have been enough to sell me on the book, but he doesn't stop there. He talks about scientific advertising to make sure you are writing ads that sell and not waste money. In addition, he talks through how to write the first paragraph and how to structure the copy. Finally, he spends time to talking about how to improve the selling power of copy.
Since I have read this book my ability to write copy has reached a whole new level. If you are in this field or responsible for writing copy I would advise you that this is a book you MUST own.

If You Want 5 Star Content, This Book is The One!

There's a reason why David Olgilvy calls this the most useful advertsing book he's ever read! I hold a Ph.D in Sales/Marketing and they simply DO NOT teach this money producing stuff enough at our colleges and universities! Instead, most of them opt for creative mush that's clever and makes for good awards and 5 minute speeches....but doesn't sell anything! If you want simple, brass tacks, powerful advertising advice, this book will be the most delapidated marketing resource in your library!
Is you're serious, RUN, don't walk to the checkout and pickup this incredible book. You'll pay guys like Dan Kennedy hundreds and even thousands of dollars for this advice...but it's all right here! Good stuff!

About the Author
William Bay is president of Mel Bay Publications, Inc. He is an accomplished guitarist and trumpet player and has performed on both instruments in a wide variety of professional settings. He is experienced as a performer and composer of music ranging from jazz and rock to the classics and sacred. He received his bachelor's degree from Washington University in St. Louis and his master's from the University of Missouri. Bill has received international acclaim for his innovative teaching methods, and he has authored over 200 books with sales in the millions. Mel Bay was born on February 25, 1913 in the little Ozark Mountain town of Bunker, Missouri. He bought a Sears Roebuck guitar at the age of 13 and several months later played his first "gig." (He recalled playing until his fingers were raw!) Mel took up the tenor banjo shortly thereafter and continued to play both instruments. During his teenage years Mel played with a wild assortement of bands and characters in rural Missouri. Perhaps no "gig" was as strange as the job he landed with, in Mel's words, "a snake oil salesman." This flamboyant peddler would pull his ostentatious Pierce Arrow automobile, complete with steer horns mounted on the grill, into the center of a small, rural town. Mel would sit on the car and play up a storm on the tenor banjo. After a crowd gathered, the peddler took over and began extolling the merits of his "wonder elixer." In 1933 Mel Bay moved to St. Louis and began his professional career. He played with numerous local and traveling bands. In addition, he landed staff guitar jobs on several radio stations. Mel fronted his own trio (piano, bass, guitar) and played steadily for 25 years! He was equally adept on most fretted instruments and played mandolin, uke, Hawaiian guitar, tenor and plectrum banjo professionally. While Mel was actively pursuing his playing career, he continued to teach as many as 100 students a week. He decided to begin writing instructional materials due to the difficulty encountered by guitarists at playing good sounding chord forms in rhythm sections and due to the poor note reading ability prevalent among guitarists. After the war Mel was asked to write instructional materials on guitar for GI's wanting to learn music under the GI Bill. In 1947 Mel formed his own publishing company and wrote his landmark initial book titled The Orchestral Chord System for Guitar. (This book is still in print under the title Rhythm Guitar Chord System and continues to be one the finest rhythm guitar chord texts available!) His Modern Guitar Method was penned shortly thereafter. For years Mel traveled from town to town talking to guitar teachers and players and showing them his publications. At one time Mel claims to have known virtually every guitar teacher in America on a first name basis! The guitar and Mel Bay books caught on in a big way in the 1950's. Things have continued to grow ever since. Mel used to sell D'Angelico guitars. At any given time he would have 5 or 6 "lying around the house." Mel played professionally on his New Yorker model but his favorite was the initial Mel Bay Model crafted as a gift for him by John D'Angelico. This famous guitar had all of the main features of the New Yorker but was a "cut away" model and had a slightly thinner neck. This instrument has been pictured on the Mel Bay Modern Guitar Method for decades. Someone once calculated that sales of guitar books written by Mel Bay have exceeded 25 million copies. When asked, Mel frequently said that he quit counting long ago. Sales of his Modern Guitar Method have alone surpassed the 7 million mark. It is safe to say that Mel Bay is one of the pivotal figures in the world of guitar music and instruction in this century.

Excellent!

I've started several attempts to get into learning guitar (books, CD's, DVD's), but this is the first that I felt had enough practice material to reinforce the concepts learned. It presents new things in bite-sized pieces, and it works for me. It is logically laid out and works well, especially the edition with the DVD, for the self-learner. I highly recommend it.

About the Author
Joseph Sassoon is an Associate Professor and Al-Sabah Chair in Politics and Political Economy of the Arab World at Georgetown University, Washington DC. Development of the Krag Jorgensen Rifle

This is an excellent book covering the development of not only the Krag Jorgensen rifle in US service, but also of its peers and competitors in the US Army's selection process for the rifle and carbine prior to the Spanish-American War. The book also gives good coverage of the development of the 30/40 Krag cartridge (30 US) as well as a review of the development of the smokeless powder that propelled the Krag's projectiles.

This is not a book that delves into the minutia of the design, but one that paints a broad stroke to give a very good overall picture of the Krag Jorgensen. For the intimate details of the design, Joe Poyer's "The American Krag Rifle and Carbine" is more to the point. For those of us that want to know about the politics, the technology of the late 1800s leading to smokeless powder firearms, the various military boards selecting military firearms and the rifle's use in the field, then this is the book for you. The author has a very articulate and readable style of writing that conveys his knowledge in a very readable manner.

Very well written and extreemly interesting.

This book not only contains a great history of the development of the Krag rifle but it also includes relevant history of cartage development, ballistics and the testing and reasoning of the rifle board responsible for choosing the Krag. It was well written and extremely interesting. I'll be looking for more books from this author.

Confidence comes from many places - this book helps you find them!

I was working with a client with a book that has a similar theme so I thought it would be a good idea to check out what others in this niche were saying. I think this book is helpful to any young men trying to get up their confidence, not only in dating but in life. The author starts with a basic groundwork which is like a map of where you want to go and then offers a step by step roadmap to get you there. It's kind of like a GPS to send you in the right direction and there was quite a bit of personal development in this book. My favorite chapter has to be 'Diversify Your Confidence" where you look to other areas to get your confidence up, like friends, hobbies, work, fitness and so on. All in all, this is a much shorter book than my client's but the information is good and will help a lot of people, especially the plan of action at the end.

Good replacement for brown crumbling original

I have an old paperback copy of this book that is brown and crumbling, and I wanted a fresh copy. In my opinion, this is a basic text for anyone interested in the early days of the establishment of Gestalt therapy and psychology. The "voices of the founders" are clear and vibrant in this collection, which contains articles I haven't seen elsewhere. I bought a Kindle edition because it won't turn brown and is unlikely to become extinct as long as a) there are people interested in Gestalt, and b) Amazon is interested in making a buck.
