Very clear introduction

This book will not solve all of your problems as you most likely will need advanced mathematical and statistical books relative to your specific area but it's the best foundational math book I've ever read. You can very quickly find useful topics that you may have forgotten and it's a great intro to the more advanced topics. The statistics chapter was so clear and helpful for an overall perspective and then you can find more advanced applications in dedicated textbooks. A very practical primer for any scientist; I love this book. I also wish it were available on Kindle with "audio enabled."

Best textbok I have had in my MBA program!

This book is great. I have never seen a finance or accounting book that so plainly explains different concepts. I have had 700 level accounting and finance and then took a healthcare finance course. This book finally made a lot of the information I had learned in the previous 2 courses make sense. I would highly recommend this for any healthcare finance program. And if you just want to learn more about this, it's a book that you can teach yourself from. I actually enjoyed sitting down to read this book. Read the whole thing in my 7-week course. Highly recommend, I wish more textbook writers had this style!

Fundamentals of Healthcare Finance, Second Edition

It's an excellent book, thank goodness I had a prior background as a local government department administrator and am married to an accountant. The author walks the reader through the concepts and builds on the prior chapters. Chapter 11 and 12 bring it all together so if you struggled in the chapters leading up to the final ones your going to be doing a lot of searching prior chapters figure out the problems. The book is a good read with the exception of one chapter which my wife commented on that the author was trying to fit an entire semester of accounting 101 into a single chapter. She helped me considerably with that one and then it all made sense. If you have the basics down this text will put it all in perspective.

The methods to complete the answers and all the information you would need was right in each chapter. I felt well-prepared for our exams. Clear writing in the text.

I think the material covered in all of the chapters is very current and pertinent and this is one of the things that I like about this text.

I really like the learning objectives that you list in each chapter, because the student has to have some greater understanding of the concept in order to effectively respond.

The book is reader friendly. Students comment on the ease of reading and comprehension, yet it maintains their interest.

There are many strengths of this text. These include logical sequence, layout of the chapters, visuals, cases, "You Make The Call"'s, and specific listed learning objectives.

I do use a competing textbook, and the contents (of the two books) are very similar. Truthfully, I prefer Hilgert and Leonard, because of the up-to-date material, interesting presentation, and supplement package.

About the Author
Dr. Raymond L. Hilgert currently is Professor of Management and Industrial Relations at the Olin School of Business of Washington University. He graduated from Westminster College, Fulton, Missouri, with a Bachelor of Arts Degree, and received his Master¿s and Doctor¿s degrees from Washington University. His business experience includes management positions at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company and a market research position with an advertising company. Dr. Hilgert has taught at Washington University for over 35 years, and he has served as an Assistant Dean and Director of Management Development Programs. He has published some 90 articles in management, business, and academic journals and has co-authored five books on human resources management, supervision, and collective bargaining, three of which are in their fifth, eighth, and ninth editions. Dr. Hilgert is a member of the Academy of Management, the Industrial Relations Research Association, the Society for Human Resource Management, the American Compensation Association, and the American Management Association. He has participated in or directed numerous management, supervisory, and business ethics programs and seminars. Dr. Hilgert is an arbitrator certified by the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service, and he has decided over 550 grievance-arbitration cases. Dr. Hilgert holds the Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) accreditation from the Personnel Accreditation Institute. He has received a number of teaching awards from students at Washington University.

Dr. Edwin C. Leonard, Jr., is Professor of Business Administration at Indiana University Purdue University Fort Wayne. He received his Bachelor¿s, Master¿s, and Doctor¿s degrees from Purdue University. Since joining the faculty some 35 years ago, he has held a variety of faculty and administrative positions, including serving as chair of the Management and Marketing Department in the School of Business and Management Sciences. Dr. Leonard has designed and conducted workshops and seminars for thousands of supervisors and managers. These programs often are customized to meet specific organizational needs. Dr. Leonard currently serves as academic advisor and coordinator of Do-it-Best Corp¿s Retail Management Training Course; this comprehensive program is for management personnel of one of the nation¿s largest hardware and building materials retailers. Dr. Leonard additionally is associated with a major full-service training and consulting firm. Dr. Leonard¿s primary research interests are in the areas of employee involvement, teaming, organizational climate and leadership, human resource management interventions, and case development. He has published in a variety of academic and professional journals, instructional supplement manuals, and proceedings. His professional memberships include the American Evaluation Association, the Midwest Society for Human Resources/Industrial Relations, the Society for Case Research (SCR), and the Organizational Behavior Teaching Society. Dr. Leonard was the recipient of the National University Continuing Education Association¿s Service Award for Continuing Education for the Professions, and he received the Award of Teaching Excellence from the Indiana University School of Continuing Studies. Dr. Leonard has received several ¿best paper¿ and ¿distinguished case¿ awards from various organizations.

I can't help but feel that this wasn't targeted at me. I'm a new supervisor, trying to sharpen my skills, but I feel like this emphasizes a lot of concepts without giving practical suggestions for implementation.

Simply the best microbiology review book

This book is great. It covers everything you need to know for step 1, while leaving out all you dont' need to know. The questions are probably the best micro vignette questions out there, and helps reinforce what you learned from the book.

This book is much better than micro made ridiculously simple in terms of boards review. Its written in outline format so you can get through it much faster, and it includes an immunology section that has all you need to know for the immunology questions on the step.

The only thing I don't like is the Rapid Review format. At times the outline format should be written in complete sentences (like the high-yield series) to avoid confusing statments/facts. For me, this seemed especially true in the immunology section, which can be confusing if you have a weak immuno background.

Other than that, this is a great review book. The only review book for micro in my opinion.

Good content, but not nearly comprehensive

I am a big fan of the Rapid Review series. The Pathology version by Goljan, as far as I'm concerned, is just as essential as First Aid when it comes to reviewing for class and Step 1. However, Microbiology and Immunology are what I would consider two of the most important topics covered on Step 1 along with pathology, pharmacology, and neuroscience. This book has some good review material in it, but is far from comprehensive. Many topics are discussed extremely briefly or omitted entirely. I could only recommend this book for someone who has Microbiology and Immunology down very well and just needs a super quick refresher. To be honest, First Aid does a better job of covering this material.

*** This review is regarding the content of the book only. I do own this book, but I have not accessed the Student Consult online material. Although I have accessed it for the pathology book in this series. From that material I have deduced that it can't make that big of a difference; but I could very easily be wrong.

Review of Microbiology and Immunology

Perfect for medical microbio class. I used Micro Made easy for class, and after reading this book to review for the boards I would definately recommend it over Micro made easy. The organization is better, it's a shorter text, has an outline format, has excellent tables that while are not as detailed as the micro made easy book are a lot easier to read, and it has everything you need to know for class, which micro made easy does not.

Immuno section is a bit brief but it has all the essentials. I would also recommend reading Immunobiology by Janeway and Medical Microbiology by Murray. Both texts are outstanding and really help you appreciate the subjects.

Beginners Guide Book for Mastering Graphic Design)

This book is as good of a summary of the necessary skills and practices that are essential to contemporary communication design as I have ever seen. I was educated in graphic design in my undergrad by the legacy of modern design and Bauhaus pedagogy, even in the wake of the sweeping technological change that was occurring all around us. This book finally catches up on a curriculum and approach that would make sense for today. After working professionally as a graphic designer for 5 years, I'm currently enrolled in a graduate program for media design. This book tells that graphic design is just the beginning, but a very necessary foundation for all kinds of design practices that our dynamic world requires.This book represent a fairly off the shelf curriculum that would serve any designer(beginner to advanced) well to follow. All that would be left is years to practice... Very Nice!

A very high, high level view of what graphic design is all about. No illustrations. I expected more from a book. This was more of a synopsis.

Terrific Introduction to the Graphic Design Field

Love this book! Bought it for one of my brothers who is interested in going to the field. To benefit from this book though, you need to have an art b.g. My sibling does, but isn't familiar with what graphic design as done in the digital field.

Another great thing about this book: It covers everything fully in plain words, including the business side of graphic design (e.g, setting prices, software programs used in this field, etc.)

A great introduction to anyone interested in becoming a graphic artist!
