Very useful for the photographs

Very useful for the photographs, many of which I had not seen in over 30 years of research on the Tiger tanks. The text is poorly translated, with numerous typos and misspellings; it seems that the US publisher didn't use and editor. Osprey's Tiger books are superior for text, but Schiffer's books are good for photos.

This slim volume (48 pages) should have been titled " The King Tiger - a photoessay", as it consists of a series of photographs with (mostly) attached captions. Action shots are rare, and include the well-worn "newsreel" sequences. However, at its price, it's probably not very bad value. One still needs to wait for Jean Restayn to turn his remarkable gifts to a "King Tiger" title to do full justice to the subject.

Excellent book. Easy to read; hard to put down

'Once a Warrior King' is an
excellent book. Written by Terry Turner using the pen name David Donovan.
I served on MACV Advisory Team 88 in Ben Tre, Kein Hoa Province, IV Corps, Sept. '68 - Aug. '69.
(That was where 'We had to destroy the town in order to save it.'
A dumb statement which was not true. Some buildings were damaged but were quickly repaired.)
I was fortunate to be at Province headquarers where we were able to live in a decent manner. By comparision, the MAT and District team where Terry Turner served, near the Cambodian border, had very little personal and US military support. It is obvious to me, as a former MACV officer, that the book 'Once A Warrior King' could have only been written by somemone who was actually there. The fact that T. Turner used a pen name is OK. Many of the names in the book were changed for reasons of privacy.
A good book.

Tip 2: Divide the Kitchen Into Zones
 
The kitchen functions at its best when it’s set up in zones. There are five main zones: cooking, preparation, cleaning, storage, and food. Everything in your kitchen should fit into one of these five categories. If you have an item that doesn’t fit, it may not belong in the kitchen.
 
A. COOKING Your cooking space should include spices, oils and vinegars, cooking utensils, pots and pans, pot holders, trivets, and other tools.
 
B. CLEANING All things related to cleaning your kitchen should be in this zone, which is typically centered around the dishwasher and kitchen sink. Categories include kitchen cleaners, under the sink items (sponges, paper towels, microfiber cloths, trash bags, dishwasher detergent), recycling bins, and trash cans.
 
C. PREPARATION Everything needed to prep meals goes in the preparation zone. Items might include mixing bowls, knives, cutting boards, kitchen gadgets, blender, and other appliances. Specific areas will form within this zone, like the baking and school lunch stations
 
D. STORAGE Items in the storage zone include food containers, silverware, dishes, glasses, and small appliances.

The most concise organizing book in a gorgeous package!

I have read several home organizing books, but *this* is the one I have been waiting for!

The first thing I noticed right away is that there is no skimping on quality, here. The colors are vibrant, the paper is nice and glossy and thick. The corners of the front and back covers are metal-tipped, which is nice because not only does it give the book weight, but it protects the corners from bending and fraying. Inside, the pictures are plentiful, inspiring, and gorgeous. Just flipping through the book will make you feel motivated enough to start tackling an area of your house!

The book is broken down into various "challenge" rooms - kitchen, dining room, garage, etc. Each room is then broken down into specific tasks, which you can follow along in the 15 week time frame, or go at your own pace. There are tons of ideas on saving space, organizing, and lest you feel overwhelmed at the state of your current household, the author has also many suggestions on how to start the process (which is sometimes the hardest part). If you follow the book page by page, at the end of roughly 15 weeks your home will be clean and organized! The best part is that you can work at your own pace. The process is manageable enough that you can do a little bit every day...or set aside a couple of hours on the weekends and knock out an entire room in one swoop.

It's clear that the author has spent a lot of time compiling this book. It is well written and detailed enough for those that need someone to point the way step-by-step, but it also leaves room for those that are not complete novices to join in the fun. There are tons of ideas that I've never seen on any other blog or website, which was refreshing. The book stands on its own, but you can also pair it with the suggestions and printables found on the author's website.

Overall, I am very pleased with this purchase and hope the author decides to write a Volume 2!

I was so excited to receive this book after pre-ordering it in November. A year ago January I had just lost my Mom and also inherited all of her things and her home. Not only did this challenge help me organize my own home and belongings but hers as well. It made me realize how hanging on to "stuff" helps us not become the best we can be. Gorgeous Package, Lacks Helpful Content

The book itself is gorgeous (which is why there are 2 stars). The pages are thick and lovely, the cover is gorgeous with corner protectors, and the photographs are beautiful. Unfortunately, original content is lacking. The book follows the same plan that is available free of charge on the author's website. While the pictures are excellent, the items used by the author for organization are not sourced; or, if they are, I'm unable to find them. If your desire is to have a pretty coffee table book, then this would suffice. If, however, you are looking for real organizational guidance, this is an expensive way to go about it. I would suggest the free plan on the author's website instead.

Michael Ventura is writer and director of the documentary I’m Almost Not Crazy: John Cassavetes, the Man and His Work, and was curator of the Sundance Festival’s 1989 Cassavetes retrospective. He has published three novels and several books of non-fiction.

A must for Cassavetes fans

It's rare to find a book that allows you to experience what it's like to be on a film set. In fact, it's better than being on a film set, because all the delays and frustrations that go into making a movie are avoided (though they are mentioned briefly in the book). Luckily, the film in question is the final masterpiece of John Cassavetes, the man who started the independent film movement. He hired a journalist, Michael Ventura, to visit the set each day and write a book about the making of "Love Streams", and the result is extremely thorough without being tedious. It's an entertaining read that offers a rare, day-to-day glimpse of a genius at work and the various people who helped him bring his vision to life. If you're a fan, you will not be able to put this book down. It is a wonderful companion to Ventura's behind-the-scenes documentary "I'm Almost Not Crazy" (which contains a lot of the moments described in the book) and to Ray Carney's Cassavetes on Cassavetes, the definitive tome on the man's life and career. It's a shame that Ventura's book wasn't published in Cassavetes' lifetime, but at least now we have it to study and enjoy forever. I think he would be pleased.

If you want to know the definition of honesty, tragedy, travesty, art, being balls-out human, this book is for you. An awe-inspiring pov of a true auteur who didn't portray life he captured it. He was Steve Jobs before Steve Jobs. A conjurer, dictator, and flawed visionary, who pushed others to be better than they never could be alone. Cassavetes, glad we got to know you, pal. Ventura, thank you.

There are great nuts-and-bolts examples of Cassavetes filmmaking method, told by a person with an underlined admiration for this individual. The author really does work as the fly on the wall. I wish more of these types of journals existed for Cassavetes' other films.

The Most Fascinating Travel Guide I've Ever Read!

Tons of travel books are published every year. Daniel Smith's 100 PLACES YOU WILL NEVER VISIT stands apart from all other such books. If you try and visit the sites detailed in Smith's book, you may end up being warned off by gun-toting guards, carted off to prison or killed! These ain't your typical tourist traps, folks!

Beginning in the Pacific Ocean, Smith takes the reader on a global, guided tour of THE MOST SECRET, INACCESSIBLE, MYSTERIOUS LOCATIONS ON THE PLANET. The sites covered are varied in nature. There are 'religious sites' like the Is Grand Shrine, the Chapel of the Ark of the Covenant, and the Mount Ararat Anomaly; think Noah's Ark! There are government sites like the Oval Office, Government Communications HQ, Fort Knox Bullion Depository, the Pentagon and the Fuhrerbunker. 'Spook' sites include the CIA Headquarters, MI5 Headquarters and Mossad Headquarters. Military bases include the Hainan Submarine Base, Headquarters of Joint Operational Command, Cheyenne Mountain Complex, Diego Garcia and Area 51. Each site rates a one-three page write-up. Articles are illustrated with a mixture of 3-D artwork, diagrams and photographs including satellite images.

In short, Smith's book is a wonderous look at some fabled, feared or near-mythical sites around the world. Part detective story, part travel guide, 100 PLACES YOU WILL NEVER VISIT is fun and informative. Highly recommended.

Love this book. I am not one that travels and found out about some very informative places and since I am not one that travels, this is a way to see small corners of the world. Great for the person that like to watch NATGEO and or other science channels. An enjoyable book with short reads

Disappointing

While there is much to enjoy about this book, I feel that it is a bit of a con.

A lot of these sites were obvious: Fort Knox, the Oval Office, etc. Is this book telling me something here that I don't know? The author could have tacked on a lot more sites based on places with a lot of security.

Some entries no longer exist: The Amber Room, Bin Laden's destroyed hideout. Some may never have existed. At least he didn't include the Lost City of Atlantis.

There were maybe 10-15 entries that I found intriguing.
